My name is Toby Harrison and I retired from a carreer in social work in 2015. I have practised meditation for over 20 years and more recently become a follower of Nichiren Buddhism. I am a firm believer that what you hold in your mind becomes your reality, and that by trying to control negative thoughts is essential to altering your feelings about yourself and the world around you.
I completed a Diploma School of Meditation offer courses which are non-sectarian and the courses have been based on studies which have been extensively explored in psychology and offer simple techniques like the relaxation response to calm your mind and body. With practice you will gain a greater understanding of yourself and appreciate what an amazing phenomena the human body is and how we interact with the world around us.
Meditation is associated associated with all religions and this may be because it taps into our spiritual side or as some like to call it our being. But thus course will not favor any religious practice.
The course does however, offer the opportunity for you to become more compassionate towards yourself and others.
My personal definition of the practice of meditation is
"Take time out, in stillness/ chanting, observe your thoughts and how your body feels, you will start to lose your fear of yourself."
